Why does my Land Rover need a waterless coolant?
Ever since the 1930’s, engine coolants have been based on a mixture of Ethylene Glycol, water and corrosion inhibitors. While these work up to a point, there are a number of inherent problems with them that can not only affect the performance and reliability of the engine, but even damage it and reduce its life expectancy.

So what are the problems associated with water based coolants?
Within an engine cooling system, the hottest surfaces are those next to the combustion chamber such as the cylinder liners and cylinder head. In these hot spots, water is likely to vaporise, but as steam, or water vapour, has virtually no heat transfer properties, the metal in these areas over-heats rapidly, producing even more steam and a vicious cycle of over-heating occurs. This over-heating process and thermal stress can lead to a number of problems such as causing distortion of the cylinder head and liners, engine knock in carburetted engines, reduced combustion efficiency and detonation issues in fuel injected engines, erosion caused by pitting around the liner, cavitation, boil-over when running and after-boil once the engine is turned off.

So how does Evans Waterless Engine Coolant prevent these problems?
Evans coolants have a boiling point in excess of 180 degrees Celsius so they do not boil around these hotspots. The higher boiling point also means they produce 75% less pressure than water resulting in less stress placed on the cooling system components. Evans engineers often demonstrate this characteristic by removing the coolant cap immediately after the car has been used.... and wow, no geyser!...
